Thinking of you “Pookie”

Ahhhh Gracie:

The neighbors missed you at the Bush Street get together last night.  Pismo and Shammy were wondering where you were.  We are still in shock that you are not greeting us at the door when we come home.  It’s been a real rough couple of days…I hope you are not bullying all of your tripawd friends up there.  You are new to the group so you need to take it easy on them.  I know you like to bully other dogs sometimes.  I met Indiana’s mom through this website so you will have to go introduce yourself to Indy.  Well, bye for now.  We miss you Lil Bubby!!!!!!!!!!!

Very Sad News!

September 15th, 2011

I am so sad to report that our Gracie did not make it through her recovery.  The Dr.  called us last night at 10:30p.m. to say she made it through surgery and was doing extremely well.  He said we could pick her up at 9:30a.m. this morning.  I was sooooo excited to see her and share the news.  This morning we received a devastating call from the vet that around 1:00a.m.  she was having arrythmia problems once she tried to stand up and got really dizzy.  She was going in and out of consciousness and he peformed CPR on her for 20 minutes but she did not make it.  This has been sooooo heartbreaking and I am feeling so sad for putting her through the surgery.  I do believe things happen for a reason and maybe she would not have been able to make it as a “tripawd”.  I just can’t imagine her being at the vet trying to stand up without me being there…..This is just devastating….I can’t stop crying….

Day of Surgery

September 15th, 2011

Well, here we are signing up for “Tripawds”.  Who would have thought?  As I type this, my Gracie is still in surgery.  This all started about a month and a half ago when our Great Dane had an unexplained limp.  Of course we thought she had a small injury of some sort.  After waiting a couple of weeks we took her to our vet who told us everything looked fine on the xray and we should continue to try to get her to walk and strengthen the leg.  After using Deramax and taking her for short walks, I realized there must be something else going on.  We took her to a specialist whom came back with the news of cancer.  The good news was that it had not spread into her lungs or other parts of her body and that she would do fine with the amputation.  She was already used to walking on 3 legs.  So, here we are waiting and feeling bad about removing a limb but after reading so many positive stories we are sure we have made the right decision.  We will continue to update you on her success..
